How do I get to Heaven? I just have to be good, right?

The Bible tells us that we can’t get to heaven while we have sin in our lives, because sin separates us from God. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.”

Okay...what happens if I still have sin in my life when, you know, I die?

If we still have sin in our life then we can’t get to Heaven, and we all know what the alternative is! The Bible calls it “death”, but God has made us an awesome promise! Romans 6:23 says, “...the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of GOD is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That means that God has given us a gift to get rid of sin in our lives!

So, who is this Jesus, and what makes him so important?
Jesus is God’s only son, and he was sent to Earth to die for our sins so we wouldn’t have to. One of the most famous Bible verses explains this: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 Isn’t that exciting! God loves us so much that he allowed His One and Only Son to die so we could join Him in Heaven!

Seriously...aren’t there other ways to get to heaven?
That’s a very good question, but Jesus is the ONLY plan God has in place to get us to Heaven. John 14:6 says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” That pretty much sums it up...Jesus is the only way to get into Heaven.

Okay, I am starting to get this. But there is one problem...I have so much wrong in my life. Don’t I need to get my life in order before I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior?
No! He wants you just as you are...He will take care of the rest. Jesus will then bring a peace to you like you have never experienced! Romans 5:8 tells us this, God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” This means he loves us right where we are.

This is starting to sound good. So how do I become a Christian?
Romans 10:9 and 10:13 says, “That if you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved...Anyone who calls on the Lord will be saved.”  It is as simple as A—B—C:
· Admit that you are a sinner (we all are) and know the need to turn away from sin and towards Jesus
· Believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and then God raised Him from the dead three days later.
· Commit your life to Jesus as your Lord and Savior

Here is a simple prayer you can pray to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior right now!
"Lord, Jesus, I need you in my life. I know that I am a sinner and I know that you died on the cross for me. I need your forgiveness and I give my life to you. I love you, Jesus, and I commit my life to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.”

If you pray this prayer, the Bible tells us that you will be saved! Now it is time to celebrate! Tell the Pastor, your Sunday School teacher or anyone else in the church about your decision, and they will celebrate with you.

How do I join Fellowship Baptist Church?
1. If you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, let us know and we will help you through the Celebration of Baptism.
2. If you have already accepted Jesus and have been baptized somewhere else, you can join by Letter of Transfer or Statement of Faith.
Either way, contact Pastor Michael anytime and he will help you with your decision. You can also come forward during the Time of Commitment and the Pastor will pray with you right then and there about your decision.

What we believe about…

Jesus (John 3:16)

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and His mother was the Virgin Mary. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and He was raised from the dead three days later. Jesus is head of the church.

The Bible

The Holy Bible was written by divinely inspired authors and is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to humankind. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter. It will remain the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.

Heaven and the Afterlife (John 3:3, 14:6)

The only path to heaven and an eternal relationship with God is through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus literally shed his blood as He died on a Roman cross some 2,000 years ago. That event happened. People witnessed it, talked about it, and wrote about it.

In Jesus, God offered His only Son as the one blood sacrifice for all of humankind’s sins through the ages. This sacrifice means that the price has been paid for our sins, that God will forgive us of our many failings and welcome us into a close and personal relationship with Him. Jesus conquered death and provided the way of forgiveness for sin through the power of His sacrifice and His resurrection from the dead. And no matter how hard we try, without Jesus we can’t get to Heaven.

Who gets to go to heaven (Revelation 3:20, Romans 10:13)

Jesus offers this salvation to all who will choose to follow Him regardless of the severity of past sin in his or her life. To choose the way of salvation, a person must accept that Jesus Christ was and is the unique Son of God and must choose through faith to entrust his or her life to God. It is the way that leads from death to life, from helplessness to hopefulness, from joylessness to joy.
