Fellowship Baptist Church

The primary purpose of the Deacon Body of Fellowship is to promote love and unity within the church body as described in Acts 6. This is to be achieved by assisting the Senior Pastor and Church Ministry staff in spiritual ministry to, shepherding of, and caring for the flock. (John 21:15-24} The Deacon Body shall establish and maintain ministry teams to achieve these goals.

In the book The Ministry of the Deacon by Howard B. Foshee, the work of the Deacon is set forth as serving the Pastor in the pastoral ministries of the church. Deacons are not called upon to work in the field of administration. Rather, Deacons are called upon to serve the Church by proclaiming the Gospel to believers and unbelievers, providing care for Church members and others in the community, leading the church in performing its ministry tasks, and leading the Church to engage in the fellowship of worship, witness, education, ministry, application and education.

Deacons may often turn to Church Officers, Committee members, Church Staff, and Ministerial Staff to secure information to help them in the fulfillment of their ministry. However, Church Officers, Committee members, Church Staff, and Ministerial Staff do not report to the Deacons but to the Church.
